The challenge

iMpuls is Migros' health initiative. As a milestone of the initiative, we implemented the iMpuls health platform with inspiring tips and offers for a healthier life at the beginning of 2017 together with Migros and under the technical project management of Migros IT Services. The design and concept was created by Aperto AG in cooperation with Migros.

Migros has launched the virtual iMpuls Coach to further strengthen Migros' brand perception in the health sector and to support customers in living healthier every day.

For the technical conception and implementation our long-standing customer relies once again on Merkle. Besides a tight schedule, the integration of different systems, the technical complexity and the coordination with other partners (design and concept) are challenges in the project.

Our approach

We follow this approach to effectively implement the web application:

  • In order to meet today's market, the application must be accessible and performant on all end devices.
  • Iterative and agile approach according to the Scrum method: Enables to react optimally to changing requirements and feedbacks as well as to let the collected experiences flow again continuously
  • Interaction of four different technologies for a future-oriented architecture:
  • Magnolia as existing CMS for data management
  • Spring as Java Framework for mapping business logic
  • React as modern frontend technology for flexible and modern development of the web application
  • Visual Frontend as reusable patterns for Magnolia and React

The iMpuls Coach serves as a daily and flexible stimulus for a healthier life. The user receives free programs with healthy recipes, workouts, tasks and tips especially tailored to his needs.

The focus is on the modern, high-performance and responsive web application specifically implemented for this requirement. In addition an interactive, animated landing page that introduces the iMpuls Coach to the user in an innovative way. The site links the various health-related offers (products, recipes, offers, etc.) of Migros.

Simple operation and secure login.

The contents of the iMpuls Coach can be maintained flexibly and in several languages in the familiar Magnolia CMS. To protect customer data, the registration process is integrated into the general Migros login.
